My Business Felt Hard Until I Optimised These 3 Things

Watch

Listen

Running a business feels exhilarating… until it doesn’t.

At some point, it just starts to feel like there’s a never ending to-do list you won’t be able to tick off. If you’re anything like how I used to be, you might even beat yourself up for all the things you just can’t get to. But the thing is, business should be exciting. It should be a fulfilling adventure. Your business should work for you, not the other way around.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve been sold this idea that success equals 24/7 hustling,  surviving on coffee and a prayer and wearing burnout like a badge of honour. But I’m calling BS on this! I tried all of those things in the past to keep my head above water, and while I love doing all the things all the time, it’s just not possible.

Success isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what really, really matters. And I think I can safely say that the myth of the hustle is dead.  So, let’s talk about the 3 power moves you can make to optimise your business and make the most of this one, gorgeous life.

Achieving Clarity

First on the optimisation journey is gaining clarity. Knowing precisely what you want, where you’re headed and what’s necessary to get you there is critical. Enjoying your life along the way is equally important. You might be tempted to sprint towards some finish line, but the truth is, happiness shouldn’t be deferred until some arbitrary milestone is crossed. Let us strive to be happy now, in this moment.

Three Power Moves for Business Optimisation

Here are the three powerhouse moves I swear by, to shake things up for you:

1. Focus on Revenue-Generating Activities

This step might not surprise those of you who’ve been with me a while—you know I love my revenue-generating activities! Firstly, requests for constant social media tweaks can wait. Instead, double down on speaking with potential clients, following up with leads and selling your brilliant offers. Grab a piece of paper or pull up your phone notes and jot down three activities from your past week that directly contributed to your revenue. If you find this difficult, it’s a clear sign there’s room for optimisation.

2.  Delegate, Automate and Delete

Another favourite strategy I’m fond of, known as ‘Keep, Stop, Start’, applies beautifully here. Don’t fall into the trap of needing to control everything. Learn to delegate to others, step into automation with tools like Zapier and email sequences and embrace the liberating joy of hitting delete on tasks that don’t serve you. Ask yourself: does this task need me, truly? If not, hand it off, automate it or scrap it entirely.

3. Create Boundaries Like a Queen

Finally, let’s establish boundaries that honour our time and energy. Repeating this mantra could be powerful: just because I can, doesn’t mean I should. You’re not obliged to be perpetually available, nor say yes to every request. Set work hours and protect your personal time fiercely. You’ll be amazed at the freedom solid boundaries can bring.

A Quick Challenge

Because I love a good challenge: pick one of these mighty three steps and make it happen this week. Focus on those revenue activities, finally delegate that delayed task or enforce a new boundary that gives you peace. Write it down and share your success stories with me—I’d love to cheer you on. Remember, keep optimising, keep thriving and keep wearing that beautiful crown of yours. You’ve got this!

[00:00:00] Emma: Well, hello. Welcome to another episode of A Tea with the Queen. You know, I'm Emma McQueen, your business coach cheerleader, an occasional crown wearing optimist. Boy, I love being an optimist, just saying, today we're diving into a topic that is so close to my heart. It's about optimising your business and optimising your life.
The two go hand in hand, right? Woof. Let's be honest, ladies, business is not meant to be this never ending to-do list that you can never get ticked off. I do like a to-do list, but it should not be a to-do list of doom where you beat yourself up, you do all the things, which you cannot actually get to.
All the things business will always be there. There you go. I said it, and [00:01:00] it should be exciting. It should be fulfilling. It should be an that works for you, not the other way round. So do, do, do. How do we do that? What I wanna talk to you about first is I wanna get real with you. Somewhere along the way, we've been sold this idea that success equals hustling 24 7, never sleeping, surviving on copy in a prayer, and wearing burnout like a badge of honour.
Oh my goodness. I call BS on this and I've tried all of these things just saying, so. Please, please know that I have tried all of these things. I love doing all the things, but 24 7 again, can't do it because success isn't about doing more.
It's about doing what really, really matters. It's about having clarity. First, we need to have clarity, man, knowing what exactly what we are doing and where we are going, and what we need to do to move the needle and brace yourself. Enjoying your life in the process, right? We [00:02:00] are here for one amazing, gorgeous life, but that is it.
if you are just sprinting towards some imaginary finish line waiting to feel happy when we get there, you know that I'll be happy when I won't be happy when, how about, let's just be happy now. What's the point? You know, optimising your business means making it work for you. Not it working against you.
Yeah. So that you have the time, the energy, the joy, might I say, to show up as your best self for your clients, for your family, and most importantly, for who? For you. Say it in the back for you. The myth of the hustle is dead. Surely, surely the myth is dead. I wanna give you 3 power moves
to optimise your business.
Think Wonder Woman. I wanna get into some tangible stuff. I am known as the queen of practical, right? So I've got three powerhouse moves that will help you [00:03:00] optimize your business today so you can reclaim some time, increase your revenue. Whoop, whoop, don't we all wanna do that and make your life just more enjoyable?
Number one, will not surprise you if you haven't been here long. My apologies. If you have been here, it will not surprise you. Focus on revenue generating activities. Whoop, whoop. See, you know, what's not a revenue generating activity. If you're looking at me on. YouTube, I'm staring at my phone, spending hours tweaking your Instagram buyer for the 17th time.
You know what is revenue generating activities, talking to potential clients, picking up the phone, following up with leads, running a killer event, selling your offers. All amazing revenue generating ideas. So here's your challenge. Grab a piece of paper or pull out your notes in your phone. I dunno if you can do that at the same time as listening to me.
But anyway, I'm not fussy. Just write down three things, three things that you've done in [00:04:00] the last week that actually brought in revenue or moved your business forward. I wanna focus on revenue, though. If you're struggling to come up with three ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. We found the area to optimize.
Call me, I'll show you how Revenue generating activities. Number two, delegate, automate, or delete another version of my Keep. Stop. Start. Okay, so listen up. I know that you like to control things I did too until I gave it away.
And I know you think no one else will do it as well as you. I promise you they will, and maybe they won't, and maybe there's some teething issues, but if you want to grow, you want to level up, you have to start handing those things off. Ask yourself, "does this task need to be done by me?" If the answer is no.
Delegate it to a va. Find a VA or a team member or an expert or someone who is better equipped than [00:05:00] you for sure.
Then you might need to automate. Automate it. There's so much tech around. There's so much tech around, there's Zapier, there's email sequences, there's scheduling tools. There's so much magic in the automation world, isn't there? Can you automate it? I would think about automating before delegating, because you've gotta get the process right and then.
Delete. Oh my goodness. How good is it to go through your emails and just hit delete? So good. Delete it. If it's not moving the needle at all, you have my permission to say, that is not serving me anymore. It's out. Number three, create boundaries like a queen. I want you to repeat after me. Just because I can
doesn't mean I should.
Just because I can doesn't mean I should. I need to say it louder for the people in the back. It's not your job to be available 24 7. I struggle with this one, right? You don't need to say yes to every opportunity. You're not gonna tell the universe [00:06:00] that you don't want that thing. You're gonna create space and time for the universe to give you the thing that you want, and you should absolutely.
not let clients emails or social media run your life. Set office hours for crying out loud. That's the very basic thing. Set office hours
I set office hours and then I go a set further and set days. For particular things. So on a Monday and a Friday, that's my CEO time. I do my podcasting.
I look at my finances. I have team meetings. I do admin, all the things. And on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and a Thursday, I'm delivering like a boss, like the boss that I am. I never have notifications on. No notifications, You have to protect your time. The more boundaries you have, the more freedom you create.
That's the key to a business and a life that you actually love. Alright. You know I love giving a little challenge to take a bit of action. So here it is. I challenge you to [00:07:00] choose one, just one of these three moves and implement it this week. One, will you focus on revenue generating activities? Or two where you finally delegate or automate one thing you keep putting off?
Find the thing that you never find time for. Automate or delegate that thing or number three, can you set some rock solid boundaries? You can do this in your head, but I prefer a piece of paper because I like to know. Pick one, write it down. DM me on Instagram. I would love to see, tell me how it goes.
Tell me what wins you get from doing that thing. That's it for today's, ladies, if this episode fired you up, please share it with a friend, a business buddy, or someone who needs to hear it. Don't forget to subscribe. We would love to get some of this goodness into other people's ears, mainly women who have their own businesses, because we know you love it.
And thank you for the feedback that we are getting from the podcast. From YouTube. Did you know we're on YouTube? sometimes people [00:08:00] are just listening to me in their ears as they're walking. Yay you. I love that for you. But I would love to see a few more people on YouTube. Can we do it? Until next week, keep optimising, keep thriving, and keep wearing that.
You know, crown you've got going on. You've got this.
